  23.   Convert-It! is the premier unit of measure conversion tool for the
  24.   Palm (tm) Connected Organizer.  Use it to convert numbers between
  25.   different units of measurement.

  30.     o Recently used conversion list allows quick and easy selection
  31.       of most commonly used conversions.

  69. System Requirements
  70. ----------------------------------------

  72.   Convert-It! is fully compatible with all devices running the Palm Operating
  73.   System (PalmOS tm), including the original Pilot 1000 and 5000, the PalmPilot
  74.   Personal and Professional, Palm III, Palm IIIe, Palm IIIx, Palm V, Palm VII,
  75.   the IBM WorkPad and the Symbol SPT 1500 connected organizers.  The only
  76.   requirement is sufficient memory to load the Convert-It! application.

  78.   Throughout this document, we will refer to the above models interchangeably
  79.   as the "handheld organizer", or simply the "organizer".

  83. Installing
  84. ----------------------------------------

  86.   This installation assumes that you have the Desktop software installed on
  87.   your computer, and the HotSync« Manager is functioning.
  88.

  90.   1. The CVTIT130.ZIP archive contains the following files:
  91.  
  92.        README.TXT    Documentation in text format (this file).
  93.        REGISTER.TXT  dpw Designs Registration form in text format.
  94.        CNV_IT.PRC    Convert-It! application.
  95.  
  96.   2. Using an archive utility (e.g. WinZip, PkZip, ZipMagic or
  97.      StuffIt Expander), extract the files from the archive.
  98.  
  99.   3. If a previous version of the program has been installed,
  100.      please delete it before proceeding.  If you are using a
  101.      PalmOS 3 device (Palm III, Palm IIIe, Palm IIIx, Palm V,
  102.      Palm VII, or have upgraded to PalmOS 3), first switch to
  103.      the application launcher.  Next, tap the "MENU" icon on
  104.      the silkscreen and select "Delete..." from the pull-down
  105.      menu.  Select the desired program and then tap the "Done"
  106.      button.  If your are using an earlier version organizer,
  107.      simply use the built-in "Memory" application to delete
  108.      the program.
  109.  
  110.   4. If you are already running Palm Desktop, click on the
  111.      "Install" button and follow the prompts to install the
  112.      program (.prc file) extracted in step 2 above.  Otherwise,
  113.      select the Palm Desktop folder on your computer and run
  114.      the Palm Install Tool to prepare the program for loading
  115.      on your device.

  117.   5. Next, synchronize (HotSync) your organizer to transfer
  118.      the program from your computer to the organizer.
  119.

  121.   For additional information, please consult the documentation supplied
  122.   with your handheld organizer.

  126. Using the Application
  127. ----------------------------------------

  129.   Once Convert-It! has been installed, tap on the "prism" icon on your
  130.   organizer to launch it.
  131.  
  132.   To perform a conversion, the following must be known: measurement
  133.   category (Distance, Temperature, Volume, etc.), input units, input
  134.   value and output units.
  135.  
  136.   First, select the unit of measure.  To do this, tap in the area to
  137.   the right of the "down arrow" in the upper right corner of the screen.
  138.  
  139.   Next, select an input unit.  Input units are located to the right of
  140.   the first field.  Tap in the area to the right of the "down arrow" to
  141.   select the desired unit from the list.  If all of the choices do not
  142.   fit in the list, tap the up or down "scroll arrow" to view more units.

  144.   Similarly, output units are located to the right of the second field.
  145.  
  146.   Then tap on the first line to select the input value field.  Using
  147.   Graffiti input or the pop-up keyboard, enter the value you would like
  148.   to convert.  Numeric input is accepted in either integer, real or
  149.   scientific notation.

  159.       Please note that a comma "," may be used in place of the
  160.       decimal point "." as a digit separator by selecting the
  161.       appropriate "Numbers" selection within the "Formats"
  162.       category of the built-in "Preferences" application.

  165.   When the calculated value is less than 0.000001 (1E-06) or greater
  166.   than 1000000 (1E06) the output display is automatically switched
  167.   into scientific notation mode.
  168.  
  169.     Example: ( To convert from kilometers to miles )
  170.  
  171.       1. Tap on the category field, in the upper right corner of
  172.          the screen, to select "Length".
  173.  
  174.       2. Tap on the input units (to the right of the first field
  175.          or line) and select "km".  Note that you will need to tap
  176.          on the "down arrow" a few times to find the "km" unit of
  177.          measure.

  179.       3. Tap on the output units (to the right of the second field
  180.          or line) and select "mi"
  181.  
  182.       4. Tap on the first field or line to begin entering the input
  183.          value.  Either Graffiti or the pop-up keyboard may be used
  184.          to enter the input value.

  186.       5. The distance in miles is displayed.
  187.

  189.   Several additional commands are available by tapping on the MENU
  190.   icon located on the silkscreen below the display.  These commands
  191.   include:

  195.       Swap            Exchange input (upper) value and unit of measure
  196.                       for output (lower) value and unit of measure.
  197.  
  198.       Clear           Clear input (upper) and output (lower) values.

  200.       Recent...       Display a list of the ten (10) most recently used
  201.                       conversions.  A conversion may be selected by
  202.                       tapping on it (e.g. km -> miles)
  203.  
  204.       Register...     Display the registration information screen. This
  205.                       screen is only displayed if the application has
  206.                       not been registered.

  209.     Edit
  210.  
  211.       Undo            Undo the last edit operation.
  212.  
  213.       Cut             Remove the highlighted text from the field and
  214.                       place into the clipboard.
  215.  
  216.       Copy            Copy the highlighted text from the field into
  217.                       the clipboard.

  219.       Paste           Place the text into the clipboard.

  302.       Palm OS 3 device (Palm III, Palm IIIe, Palm IIIx, Palm V, Palm VII or

  304.       upper right corner of the form.  If you are using an earlier version
  305.       organizer, your Pilot User Name follows the text "Welcome".
